Needing and getting

What you need is not what you get

Greece thinks it needs one thing, the EU thinks it needs another. Neither seems to be getting very much.

A knight to forget

Fred Goodwin, former CEO of the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) and persona non grata in the UK, is no longer a knight. It was ridiculous to force people to continue calling him "Sir", or even "sir"!

BlackBerry jam

Research in Motion, the company that created the BlackBerry, has had a lot of damaging publicity in recent years. BlackBerry is no longer flavour of the month. It’s in a bit of a jam.

Wise Words 2011

In this quiz, I test your knowledge of some of the expressions I’ve focused on in 2011. I’ve covered many topics, from political scandals to royal weddings, from London riots to Shakespeare's Richard III.

Do you like it stuffed?

A turkey at Christmas

A turkey is an ugly bird, but it’s delicious. Turkey is also a beautiful country. So why does Deborah Capras always think of failure when she hears the word “turkey”?

Unbelievably cack-handed

Nobody expected Sarkozy to kiss Cameron’s hand, but did he really need to refuse to even shake his hand?
