Top Ten Wise Words

Wise Words: top ten
You can’t avoid the top ten lists at this time of year. These are my favourite Wise Words that I focused on in 2009. Try to learn them — they’re bound to be useful in 2010, too.
At the beginning of the year, I predicted we’d be in for a white-knuckle ride. I think you’d agree I was right!
It’s something I’ve always suspected, but this year it was finally proved. British politicians are on the fiddle.
A fringe is an innocent part of a hairstyle — or a right-wing party that too many people voted for in the European election in June. Hostile to foreigners, these kinds of parties are on the fringe of society.
This year saw a number of scams, including Bernie Madoff’s Ponzi scheme for the rich and famous. Don’t let yourself be scammed in 2010.
We’ve been dropping like flies at work since the swine flu, sorry I mean H1N1 virus, arrived in Europe. We’ve all been a little sick.
Have you got a Twitter account yet? Don’t know what it is? Then read up on one of the trendiest words in the internet and about how companies — and not just twits — are using Twitter.
A day hasn’t gone by when the iPhone hasn’t been in the news. I focused on a trend that Steve Jobs didn't like: jailbreaking.
Everyone made mistakes in 2009 — even Barack Obama. At least he admitted he screwed up.
This year has had a green focus for many businesses, including Business Spotlight. Our 4/2009 issue had a green focus — and was popular with our readers. I also focused on some green words on my blog. Here are two you should know and be able to use with confidence in 2010:
There are many word partnerships with carbon. Carbon footprint is my favourite. Unfortunately, mine is still too high.
Have you done anything to improve or protect the environment this year? We hope we’ve provided you with a fun learning environment through our website.
I look forward to providing you with more words in 2010. (Look was also a Wise Word — go on, look it up.)
