Face-to-face interviews
You’ll impress me if you…
Brady: …remember my name. Quite often, you’ll be introduced to two or three people. Remember their names, and use them, especially when saying goodbye. Also, take an interest in me: ask me what I do and how long I’ve been with the company.
Lambert: …can answer questions about your résumé or tell me something about yourself without looking like a deer caught in the headlights.
Marriott: …know a bit about our business. We assess five factors: appearance, attitude, ability, experience and whether you fit in with us. You need to project your personality and suitability for the job. Be prepared to talk and discuss things, not just to answer questions.
Roestorff: …tell me things that are relevant to the job you are applying for. Also, if you are well-groomed and dressed in a manner that is suitable for the type of position you want — not too formal if you’re applying as a cook, but not in jeans if you’re a manager.
Sup: …show a real passion for the field. Even if you’re not in management, you should be able to express how you’ve taken on a leadership role, for example, by serving on committees or holding an office in a professional association.
