A fair chance
Jobmessen sind ideal, um Firmen kennenzulernen und um selbst bei den Personalbeauftragten bekannt zu werden. Aber nur wer sich gut vorbereitet, wird Erfolg haben.
If you're a newcomer to the world of job fairs, you might be surprised to learn just how many there are. Whether it is a university fair, an open fair or an exclusive invitational recruiting event, there is one for every profession and level of experience - from school-leaver right up to qualified professional.
Visiting a fair for the first time can be an eye-opening experience, particularly if it's one of the large open fairs. The Hobsons Absolventenkongress in Cologne and Zurich , or the Connecticum in Berlin, can host over 300 companies and attract well over 16,000 visitors. And each of these visitors is after the same thing as you: the recruiters' time and attention. So, wandering the exhibition hall aimlessly, collecting pens and other giveaways, is not going to help you to get a job. If you want to stand out from the crowd and make serious contacts, you need to do your homework.
You'll have a chance to shine — but only if you are well-prepared.
This begins with thinking about what you really want. Are you looking for a full-time position, or would a trainee programme also interest you? Are you prepared to move to another city or even country for the job you want? Once you are clear about your goals, check the fair's website for the firms that will be present, and see which of the positions they are recruiting for match your qualifications and interests. Research the companies further on the internet and plan your day around the firms you really want to speak to. Be prepared for big crowds at some stands but don't be discouraged. When it's your turn for a chat, you'll have a chance to shine - but only if you are well-prepared.
