South Africa: land of opportunity
The African continent has been largely neglected by business people from the rest of the world. South Africa has long been seen as an exception, however, and as the gateway to business success on the continent. At the moment, media messages about South Africa are mixed. On the one hand, we hear reports of crime and poverty, HIV/Aids, political instability and the legacy of apartheid. On the other hand, there are reports on the opportunities arising from a strong infrastructure, a young workforce and the exciting diversity of the “Rainbow Nation”.
Business Spotlight spoke to two South African experts about doing business with their country: Sithembile Mokaeane, manager for media relations for Siemens, South Africa; and Marinda Seisenberger, an intercultural trainer in Germany.
SITHEMBILE MOKAEANE was born
in Sharpeville, South Africa, in 1977.
She studied journalism in South
Africa and drama in London.
Mokaeane has worked in radio as
well as community television, and
has performed as an actress and
dancer. She recently completed a postgraduate degree at the Gordon
Institute of Business Science at the
University of Pretoria. She currently
works as a manager for media relations
with the firm Siemens in South Africa. Contact:
