Im Lerntipp Nr. 7 zeigen wir Ihnen, wie Sie das Quiz, mit dem unser Newsletter beginnt, einsetzen können, um Ihr Business English zu erweitern, zu üben und zu testen.

Learning Tip 7

 Learn, test, learn, test again

Every Wednesday, we send out a newsletter that starts with a mini business English quiz. Here's an example:

"I left the shop feeling _____ at the way the sales assistants had spoken to me."

Is the correct answer  "a) disgruntled" or "b) dismantled"?

It's disgruntled. You can learn why here.

If you save every newsletter, you can turn your email inbox into a mini series of tests. How? There are seven easy steps:

1. Sign up

Sign up for our free weekly newsletter.

2. Create folders

Create a folder in your inbox for BSnewsletter and a subfolder BSnewsletter-learned.

3. Create a filter

Create a filter for our newsletter. Emails from redaktion@newsletter.business-spotlight.de should  be moved automatically to the BSnewsletter folder. If you don't like using filters, just move them manually.

4. Learn it, keep it or delete it

When you receive a newsletter, try the quiz and learn the expression. If the quiz focuses on a word you don't know, keep the newsletter. If you know it, delete it from the folder.

5. Take the test

How do you do the test? Here's a screenshot of my newsletter inbox, with the last 11 newsletters.

Check your inbox

As you can see, the subject lines contain the two answer options. Look at the words in the subject line first. Try to remember the example sentence — and the correct answer. Open the newsletter. Now, see if you remembered the example sentence and now try to remember the correct answer, the meaning of the word and the translation. Click on the link when you think you have remembered — or when you know you really can't remember! If you get it right at least three times, move the newsletter into the subfolder BSnewsletter-learned.

6. Test again

Every month, look through the newsletters in the subfolder BSnewsletter-learned. How many can you still remember?

7. Learn again — test again

If you've forgotten any, move them back into the main folder BSnewsletter. Repeat steps five to seven.

If you've missed any of our quizzes, you can find them all here:
