Making a telephone call in English is an important business skill. This exercise will help you to make those necessary business calls.
First, study the explanations below, and then try the telephone exercises. If you don't get 100 per cent come back and read through the explanations again. Good luck!
We have chosen some expressions you will need when you are the caller.
Finding the right person to speak to.
- "Could you put me through to Mr Jones, please?"
- "Could I speak to Mr Jones, please?"
Explaining who you are.
- "Good morning, my name is Susan Hopkins, calling from ABC."
- "Good morning, this is Susan Hopkins speaking."
Explaining why you are calling.
- "I'm calling to ask about..."
- "I'm phoning to let you know that..."
