Negotiations take place at work, at home, on the street — and even in some surprising places, too. However, not many people would be prepared to negotiate when they make an appointment at the dentist's. The dentist usually knows the going rate. Most people wouldn't be prepared to compromise when it comes their teeth. Unless they have a very good reason.

Watch the following short video and listen out for typical negotiating phrases. Here's a list of words that should help you to understand the video better. Mouse over the words to see the translations. It's worth watching it right to the end!

  • tooth extraction
  • quote
  • assume sth.
  • nurse
  • jab
  • numb up the gum
  • leave sth. out
  • dosage
  • agonizingly
  • excruciatingly

Did you get the joke?

He wants to book a tooth extraction for his wife, which is why he says it doesn't matter if pulling the tooth out is agonizingly, excruciatingly painful.

We hope you don't negotiate in the same way — agreeing on a deal that will cause your colleagues a lot of pain

Hi,

maybe it's a matter of using Opera as an Internet browser: I can't see any link to the video.

Kind regards

Dietmar
