Stella Rimington was the first woman to head the British Security Service MI5 from 1992 to 1996. She has published a series of novels about Liz Carlyle, a female secret agent. This book is an excellent source of insider information about the secret service. The action moves from the diplomatic circles within the Home Office to the big corporations of mega-rich Russian oligarchs. Carlyle tries to uncover a plot to murder a member of this new, extremely rich Russian exile community. With obvious parallels to the recent poisoning of the Russian agent Litvinenko and the possible connections to the Putin government, the story is very up-to-date. It also provides an insight into a variety of office situations, intrigue and meetings on an international and intercultural level.
