Little Pink Slips,
by Sally Koslow

In North American English, a “pink slip” is a notice that you have been fired. Magnolia Gold, the 37-year-old
editor-in-chief of a respected New York women’s magazine, gets her pink slip along with the news that the magazine is going to be renamed and taken over by a popular actress and
chat show host. If this sounds familiar, that’s because it really happened to author Sally Koslow, the former editor-in-chief of McCall’s, one of America’s oldest women’s magazines. McCall’s was transformed into Rosie, with comedian Rosie O’Donnell as editor. The new magazine
folded after less than two years, however. Like her protagonist, Koslow overcame the shock of being fired and found success in other areas. Little
Pink Slips is a sharp and funny look at the
cut-throat world of women’s magazines. Not surprisingly, Hollywood is interested in filming the novel.
