COMMENTS
Dear Ms Capras,
Thank you very much for finding so many collocations with work.
There seems to be a little glitch in question 1. The tooltip for "on time" reads "rechtzeitig".
My understanding is as follows.
- on time = pünktlich: The train arrived on time, according to the timetable.
- in time = rechtzeitig: We arrived at the station in time to get the train.
Best regards,
Uwe Kindsvogel
Many thanks for your comment. Your point is completely correct — "on time" and "in time" are not the same thing, and should not be confused. Our translator agrees that the choice of translations was not ideal precisely because of the danger of perpetuating the common confusion. In her defence, however, she does see the word "rechtzeitig" used in just that context: i.e. in the sense of "according to a predetermined schedule". (Ich werde oft rund um die Uhr arbeiten müssen, um die Bestellungen rechtzeitig herauszuschicken.) In other words, this may be splitting hairs, but could there be a slight overlap between "rechtzeitig" and "pünktlich"?
Your point, however, is well taken, and we have changed the translation.
All the best
