The correct answer is: bracing

British Airways is bracing itself for a staff strike over the Christmas holidays.

If you brace yourself for something, you prepare yourself for something difficult or unpleasant that is going to happen.

Cabin crew at British Airways (BA) have threatened to go on strike from 22 December to 2 January. They are protesting against the company’s decision to cut jobs and freeze wages over the next two years. BA is in serious financial difficulty, having lost over €300 million in the first half of this year, and says it will need to cut even more staff next year. Meanwhile, over one million passengers face having their flights cancelled at one of the busiest times of the year.

brace oneself for sth. = sich auf etw. gefasst machen
