Many words to describe people and their personalities start with “self”. However, not all of them are positive. In a job interview, for example, you should be very careful about which ones you use. Increase your vocabulary by doing our short exercise.

"She's a very goal-oriented person. She knows exactly what we need to do."

know sth. inside out

"I've been practising my presentation all weekend — I know it inside out."

pass (an exam) with flying colours

"I know I said I was worried about the exams — well, I passed with flying colours!"

hands-on training

"We did some hands-on training with the new machines today."

diligent

"He spent hours revising for his exam. He's such a diligent student!"

financial acumen

"I used my financial acumen to save the company a million dollars in just one year."

have (got) sth. under one’s belt

"I've got several computing courses under my belt now."

subject

"Maths was my favourite subject at school."
