Say it like it is

The British need a new simile. From December, we will no longer be able to describe a task that we expect to be never-ending as “like painting the Forth Bridge”. I suggest we use something with "Greeks".

Baby steps

EU leaders, together with the IMF, have agreed to support a new €109 billion Greek bailout, which will include a voluntary contribution of €37 billion from the private sector. The new deal, which will also be applied to Ireland and Portugal, has had a mixed reaction from the media.

Quiz: "bailout" or "bail"?

"Dominique Strauss-Kahn, the head of the IMF, was refused ___ in New York this week."

One, two, three...

Bail or bailout?

"Snap out of it, Brian Cowen, and snap to it. It’s time to call a snap election."

Playing snap

Snap out of it Brian Cowen, and snap to it. It’s time to call a snap election. Cowen, the Irish prime minister, has promised to call a general election in the New Year. But many people are calling for a “snap election”.

Quiz: "bailiff" or "bailout"?
