BP oil crisis Premium-Inhalt

The BP oil crisis is far from over. Although there has been some positive developments, it will be years before the Gulf of Mexico can return to normal. If, in fact, it ever can. Our test looks at the vocabulary used to talk about the business side of the crisis.

Troubled waters

US: Large quantities of methane gas escaping from BP's damaged Deepwater Horizon well are causing “dead zones” in the ocean. The gas, which was found to be 100,000 times higher than normal levels in some places, causes a chain reaction that sucks oxygen out of the water.

But the British company BP is responsible for the oil spill and relations between the US and Britain are likely to become even cooler under a new government.
