To start the New Year right, we’re going to work on our grammar! Today, let’s concentrate on using “have to“. Listen to some German sentences and then translate them into English, using a form of “have to”.
The verbs “must” and “have to” have very similar meanings. Both are used to talk about things that we have an obligation to do, or things that we are sure about. But there are certain differences between the two verbs.
A word of advice: parents can always tell their children they "must" do
something, colleagues rarely can. It's possible to use this modal verb
in business situations, but it can sound impolite and more authoritarian than authoritative.
