In many ways, I have had a lucky life. In particular, as a white

Four years ago I took three videotapes and one ballot to class. Our
topic that evening was the presidential debates. Most of my students
had never seen a presidential debate or an absentee ballot, so we had
our work cut out for us.
Three years of Kindergarten had flown by and here I was, buying flowers for my son's teachers on his last day. I told the florist I was looking forward to the four years at the new elementary school. “Geniessen ist jetzt vorbei!” she said. The fun was over?
