Procedure
- Ask your students to work in pairs. They should cover up the vocabulary on pages 4–5 of Skill Up! and write down as many words as they can for the numbers in the pictures. Give them 15 minutes to do this.
- Let them read out their words and check them against those in the text. The pair with the most correct answers is the winner. Highlight any differences between the UK and US names and spellings of car parts.
- Split the students into two teams, one to represent customers and the other, salespeople. Each team should brainstorm what they might say in a showroom.
- Get feedback and make two columns on the board, one for customers, the other for salespeople. Write useful expressions relating to each in the relevant columns.
- Pair a “customer” with a “salesperson” and ask them to practise a dialogue in a showroom. Ask some pairs to perform their role-play for the rest of the class.
- Now the students draw a picture of the interior of their own car as on page 5 of Skill Up! Tell them not to show their pictures to each other.
- Working in groups of four, one student should describe their picture so that the other three can draw it. The students then compare their pictures with the description. Continue the exercise until each has had a turn to describe their drawing.
- For homework, assign the exercises from Business Spotlight plus, pages 18–19, as well as the online activities at http://www.business-spotlight.de/our-products/skill-up/skill-up-8
