Hello,
I am Kristina and I have done the test even now.
I think there is a mistake in the fifth exercise.
Please have a look at the exercive "Provided or as long as".
In the second statement the second "as" after "as long" is missing.

Best regards,
Kristina

Hi Kristina

Thanks for your feedback. Read our explanation on the answer page to find out why it's missing.

Take care

Deborah

Question 6's answers are both correct, aren't they? It is rather impossible to guess which is correct as the reader doesn't know which expression is preferred by the author...

Yes and no. In Question 6 we are talking about the future, not the present. We are not making a general statement of fact. We start the sentence with the "will" future: "We'll carry out..." and talk about a period of time "first six months". In this case, only one of the conjunctions can convey the correct meaning, which is "Once you have completed your first six months, we will carry out a review".

The present perfect tense can be used after this conjunction to express the idea of completion in the future.

If you wanted to express doubt over whether the employee will still be working for the same company in six months' time, you would use the other conjunction, but with the present tense ("We'll carry out a performance appraisal ___ you complete six months in the job."). We would also have to leave out "your first".

I hope this makes it clearer.

(BTW, I didn't want to give away the answer here for Question 6 so I haven't said which one is right. I hope this doesn't confuse the issue!)

Kind regards
