1. The possessive form of nouns
In English, the possessive is formed by adding:
- 's to singular nouns, including those that end in -s: the secretary's desk; the boss's room
- ' to plural nouns ending in -s: the farmers' association
- 's to irregular plural nouns: children's games
- 's to phrases: Mary and John's boss
- ' to classical (Greek or Latin) names ending in -s: Socrates' teachings
