Thomas Hull, who is better known by his stage name, Kid Harpoon, has been responsible for some of the most popular songs of this century. He has written and produced hit songs for stars such as Harry Styles, Lizzo, Florence + the Machine and David Byrne. Hull was named Abbey Road Studios’ first producer in residence. He’s also won two Grammys and a BRIT Award, and he produced Miley Cyrus’s “Flowers” — the first song to break one billionMilliarde(n)billion streams on Spotify, in 2023. He also co-wrote and co-produced the song “As It Was”, by Harry Styles, Spotify’s most-streamed song of 2022.

Hull explained that, despite his success, he had “a lot of existential questions, like, ‘Why am I doing it?’” He has also had struggles with the music industry itself. “There’s so much ego needed to make music,” he told Music Week. “I’d like to [prove] that if you just work hard, be good to people, then you can achieve all those things that anyone else could. What’s been a bit of a battle for me is, I’m kind of a mellowgelassen, umgänglichmellow, chilled (ifml.)entspanntchilled guy, not necessarily the big alpha, ‘Do this, do that!’ — and a lot of the big music people are.”

I’m not the big alpha, 'Do this, do that!’
